The The Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Project includes three balanced components which are the reasons why the Project has received such broad support:

  • 1) Stewardship Contracting - The Project will allocate $750,000 per year for ten consecutive years to the Seeley Lake Ranger District of the Lolo National Forest to implement landscape stewardship planning, restoration and monitoring on the District and on the Blackfoot Community Conservation Area.
  • 2)Biomass – The Project will allocate a $4.5 million cost-share for a new boiler and a 3.2 megawatt cogeneration facility at Pyramid Mountain Lumber to provide an outlet for excess forest fuels.
  • 3) Wilderness Designation – The Project will permanently protect 87,000 acres of recommended wilderness on the Lolo National Forest within the Blackfoot and Clearwater watersheds while expanding snowmobile trail linkages between Seeley Lake and Lincoln.
